Wellesley-In-Westchester Book Awards
Each year, our club awards a copy of the Norton Book of Women's Lives to female high school juniors throughout the county.
Wellesley-in-Westchester is proud to have one of the strongest Book Award programs in the country. The continued success of our program is only possible through the continued commitment of our club members as sponsors, supporters, and presenters. Last year, books were awarded to exceptional female students in their junior year at 53 high schools throughout Westchester. (The complete list is below.) Each year, our Club awards a copy of The Norton Book of Women's Lives, a single volume anthology of twentieth-century literature of women's lives, to young women who have demonstrated outstanding academic performance and character and who have made contributions to extracurricular activities and/or community life. Whether she chooses to attend our college or not, she is recognized by the award and that type of recognition is empowering. Hopefully, it emboldens her for whatever choice she makes after graduation.
In addition to recognizing young scholars, the Book Award program is an important outreach tool for the Admissions Office as it helps to raise the visibility of the college among students, families, friends, teachers, and communities. The program also gives us an opportunity to provide current data about the college to the guidance departments of the participating high schools, such as the generous financial support that is available to students. As alumnae, the program also allows us to connect with one another.
The awards are supported through donations by WIW alumnae, and our club members hand-deliver the books to each school.
