Let’s welcome spring with a nature walk at the Sheldrake Environmental Center in Larchmont.
Please join us for a one hour guided nature walk at the Sheldrake Environmental Center on Weaver Street in Larchmont, NY on Sunday, April 17 at 11 a.m., followed by light refreshments in the community room.
The walk at the Reservoir will follow the trail around the pond, possibly stopping at the top of the big dam overlooking the lake. It is hilly in some places, and the surface is either wood chips or bare dirt, so sturdy shoes are recommended. There's woodland area, a meadow, and a few buildings left over from before the conservancy was declared in the 1980s. The walk around the property will take an hour or so as we stop to observe "nature in action." Also, the property has a very interesting history as the pond was originally created by an entrepreneur for the purpose of creating an ice business, and the Reservoir was created later in the 1800s to provide drinking water for the village of Larchmont. Some of the old buildings date back to that era. The tour is suitable for adults and kids.
